Holy Roller Heart

A Novel

Holy Roller Heart is a southern gothic, coming-of-age, murder mystery set in the 1950s. Thirteen-year-old Moses Grady Witt is a Missouri mugwump navigator, a’straddling a barbed-wire fence while trying to touch both sides of the ground. On one side is Pentecostal zealotry—on the other, Ozarkian witchery. The strain at times almost rips our hero apart. Lucky for Mo, his tiny twin sister, Millie Faye, is there to save him or so she thinks. Mix in a giant Russian boar, a red, bran’-spankin’-new, red ’55 Chevrolet, a magic magnet, and a coffin that won’t stay in the grave, plus a cast of unconventional characters and you’re in for a wild ride in the vein of Mark Twain.

To Kill a Common Loon

A Novel

To Kill a Common Loon is part murder mystery, part contemporary fantasy, part eco-fable, and all fun. Harp P. Gravey, a down-and-out sometime-banjo picker, just wants to fulfill a death-bed promise to a friend and scatter his ashes in the Olympic Mountain wilderness. He never bargained on a shape-shifting dragon, an Indian Princess, a hat-loving cougar, and a villain who will stop at nothing to steal his friend’s land. His one saving grace is he’s got avian pluck in his heart. With spiritual guidance, he has to become a bird to become a man, as he tries to solve the murder, get back his beat, and find a place to call home.

The Man in the Loon

A Novel

The Man in the Loon dishes out an appetizing murder mystery cooked up in a quirky, eco-friendly tour de force. In this sequel to the novel To Kill a Common Loon, there is a rash of local high-school football players dropping dead, a mystical, burning totem pole, a series of catastrophic earthquakes, and an ages-old wrong that needs to be righted before it is too late for humankind. Join Harp on his dragon-bedeviled meanderings to catch a mass killer in the wilds of Washington’s untamed Olympic Peninsula, while making his own 12-step, spiritual journey from fatherhood to ‘featherhood’ with the help of his avian avatar Qo-oo-la. Transmigration has never been this dangerous.

Tall Tales & Bluegrass

CD

This is a classic! Recorded live in 2001, this CD features original, hilarious yarns and old-timey bluegrass music by Mitch Luckett, flavored by his Pentecostal upbringing in a small town in the Missouri Ozarks. In song and story, Mitch answers such questions as “what could wipe the smile off a dead man’s face?”, “is it possible to find true love on the road to Wieser?” and “what is Mitch’s signature doing on his very own birth certificate?” Played on folk stations from Bozeman to Scranton and points in between! The CD includes banjo and harmonica tunes that form the backdrop of his first novel To Kill a Common Loon.
